  1. I would just reward him and praise him like crazy when he does what you ask. Other than that, I don't know what else you would do. I mean, for eleven years you haven't asked him to do anything extra, I don't know if you can expect him to be all excited about learning new things at this point. He's not used to it.
  2. That's too bad. Poor Sassy gets attacked in her own yard! Hopefully another call will get some results.
  3. Do you know who owns the dog? If you do, you could go talk to the owners. Otherwise you could call animal control or take it to a rescue organization if it is a stray. I'd go with the rescue organization. If it's a stray, it could probably use a good home.
  4. Awesome! :D Congratuations on the show :D 8) :D 8)
  5. How can an australian shepherd be pure bred if there is chihuahua in it's background?
  6. cute, but not far off from those "hybrid" breeds that people try to sell. I say stick with real breeds and rescues. Health problems are a big concern.
  7. Let us know what happens after the vet visit on Monday. I'm hoping Baby is alright
  8. I really wouldn't give a dog cough medicine meant for people. Take him to the vet!
  9. I saw that one too... Those poor pups
  10. Why couldn't they just sedate the wolf? It makes no sense to shoot it... It would only take a few minutes
  11. I can't pick just one! I really like the looks of the Great Pyranese though. Beautiful white dogs.
  12. Makes a good point. Genetics is important, especially in purebreads as they are more likely to carry genetic ailments.
  13. *sniff* That was really good... and very true. Does anybody know who sings the song?
  14. Congratulations! New puppies are a lot fun :) pics would be great
  15. She could contact a lawyer and have him/her help her to draw up a legal contract. It would be a one time expense and she would have a contract that could actually mean something. Sometimes people write up these "contracts" very quickly and without any legal knowledge and any law student could pick them apart in about five minutes. That's the way I would go. Also, if she knows a notary public that could notarize the contracts, that would be even better.
  16. Well, if he only looks like that in pictures than I'd definatly say it's the camera. What does he look like in pictures where you didn't use a flash?
  17. Is distance the only factor in you not taking the dog? If so, I know that many animal rescue groups do doggie relays in order to transport animals long distances. You could get in contact with a group in your sisters area. Volunteers will take the dog a few hundred miles or so and give it to another volunteer and the dog will eventually reach you! I know if it's by my way I'd gladly take her a leg of the journey. Just thought I'd let you know.
  18. That is pretty awful. :x I doubt the owner of the stud dog is going to want the female in place of the puppy. Can you take the female? At least than you would know that it would have a good home... Or is she only selling the female in order to make the money that she thought she would make from the puppies? Man, either way it is a terrible situation. Hopefully she has learned her lesson and won't try this again! :-? :x It is too bad that Baby is going to pay the price. Totally unfair.
  19. I voted no. I'm studying genetics in college right now, and it is way to complicated for these people to be sure that they have "bred out" any health problems. :x
  20. You could use a diluted lysol solution (I'd do 1:10 to start with) to wash with and than rinse real well afterward. That should take care of the odor. Just rinse thoroughly when you're done applying the lysol solution. Also, you shouldn't have to do the Lysol thing as often as just hosing down with water. I would try Lysol about once a week and see how that works.
  21. Oops, that was me. I forgot to log in. And don't worry if she is hyper during the classes, that is why you go! If she were a perfectly behaved dog you wouldn't need to take her to the classes!
  22. Hmmm... So she's a year and a half? Maybe she is moving out of adolescent/puppy hood and acquiring some new ideas about small animals at the same time? That's the only thing I can think of. Tough situation though, maybe someone else will have an idea to help you out. My only idea is to take her to a puppy class or something where you know there is a controlled environment and smaller dogs. Make it a positive experience where she can learn that small dogs are not to be attacked...? Maybe stop giving her those stuffed animal toys...
  23. Wow, that was pretty moving... I'm glad Sweetie had at least 3 good years so she could know the happiness of a loving home
