1. Dogs? children? Is there even a choice here?

Oh yeah, I forgot. Society insists that you not be aware of the fact that having children is a choice and do so because you must follow the life script.
Feh.... 8)
you guys knew I couldn't leave this one alone.

2. I was ignoring this thread with a seething passion, but have to point out that as squicky as David Hasselhoff is, he does at least have ggod taste in dogs- he has Pomeranians.
A random Cricket pic from this summer:

3. :chainsaw1:
Resident angry childfree, checking in.

W.C. Fields once said:
"Children should not be seen or heard from. Ever again. "

Note to entitlement minded parents: The free ride is about to disappear folks. More and more people not only do not find your offspring cute or charming, but are coming to the realization that they are indeed subsidizing your reproductive choices, and we vote.

4. I was pretty young, but if I remember correctly, Carolyn may have even bought a dog from my mom, but that would have been in the late 1970's, or at least had correspondence with her. Our kennel name was Andromeda, but it has been a long time since I saw the name on any pedigrees. Deb and Steve I've known for many years- all my harnesses are Windigo too, and if I didn't have a dedicated harness eatter, all of mine would be intact too..... :-?
Yeah, that Bug is quite the gal- very serious dog and and very expressive. She is out of some old Attla Alaskans, (Chris and Jarvi) and her brother , whom I also have, has been a super dog as well. She deserved a better musher than me!
This is her brother Merlin- also a leader, but better at being a doofus. He acts more like his Mal mother...

5. Hi Jeffrey-
Been reading your site for several years now, having first seen it on Sled Dog Central. I started mushing with Siberians back in the 70's- my mom raised them. I had one female with a Seppela backround that was a wonderful dog and left me with high expectations of what lead dogs are capable of. Thankfully I've been blessed with two "once in a lifetime leaders" -the second being a 75%/ 25% Alaskan- Malamute cross. We are nearing the retirement trail now, and have decided to do the Beargrease 150 this winter, as a reward to her for her 8 years of being a perfect lead dog. She deserves a better musher than I...
This is "Bug":

6. I would say that is athropomorphizing the fish somewhat.
Due to the nature of a fishes' brain, I don't think it has much choice about biting a bait that it's brain tells it is food. Same with salmon who swim up a river to spawn and then die. Their biology precludes them from having much of a choice about it.

7. Cricket good- Calm, nothing phases her, very brave with the big dogs.Bad: very brave with any big dog.

8. And again another year. There is still a hole in my heart for you little one- Cricket cannot fill that place, only prepare a site for one of her own.

9. There are registered Siberians competing,(A team won the 400 mile Beargrease Marathon 2 years ago- no small feat) but if they were to step into a show ring they would laughed at by the so-called breed standard people. They are tall, rangy and don't have the distinct masks that people equate with Siberians. I know you guys are not going to bash me, i was being a smart-a$$. 8)

10. I've been on this board for a couple years now, and most of the folks here know that I breed my dogs. I've been invovled in mushing for over 27 years now and have had 3 litters of pups in that time. My dogs are unregistered and untitled, but no-one here has ever "bashed" or flamed me because I've patiently and civilly explained why this is so. I have Alaskan Huskies- they are a non-registered working breed. They are the only breed able to be consistantly competitive in the type of racing that I do. This is not to say that these dogs don't carry extensive and detailed pedigrees- they have few genetic health problems because mushers do not breed for looks, but working ability only. Of the three litters that I've had, some pups were not destined to be good sled dogs, either because of being too big or not having the right attitude. Those pups were sold to recreational mushers or skiiers with a return clause and a spay / neuter agreement. Did I make money? Probably a little, at least enough to screen out the yay-hoos looking for a free puppy and recoup some of the health care costs for their shots, worming and such.
(Don't start bashing now, OK guys? )

11. Did anyone go to the forum pages? I'm wondering if this isn't a very well disguised cover or a puppy selling operation because I noted that they had a "Puppies for sale" section, as well as one for adult dogs. They had a disclaimer that the posts weren't screen so it is obviously "buyer beware" :icon_rock:

12. Queen Victoria of England, Isaac Newton, (a "pre-Pom" to be sure) Tammy Wynette, Dan from my MSN Pom group(He should be a celebrity) David Hasselhoff(!)

13. Nope- no sprint for me. (My dogs are part Malamute- we just wouldn't fit in with all the pointer crosses  )We do mid-distance, and are on the verge of retirement, planning to do the Beargrease 150 next winter as a " last hurrah" to 27 years in the sport.

14. This topic is only gonna get better, but here it goes-
Is it runny poop? Cricket makes these nice ,neat little tootsie rolls that are fairly easy to clean up and don't get gooed up in her butt hair. I trim the business end of course, but she has never had a problem. If it is the runnies, a trip to vet would be the best plan.

15. A number of years ago I had a dog named Aesa, a female Alaskan that I bought from a musher in northern Minnesota- (She died at only 6 years old of kidney failure, probably genetic :( she was a very hard working dog, with allot of greyhound in her backround, so she didn't quite "fit" with my Mal crosses... Anyway, one day I heard this terrible screaming coming from the dog yard- I ran up there and she was as far away from her house as she could get, trembling in fear, like there was something really horrible in her house. I peeked in there, and it was......
A baby rabbit. (Also scared to death.)

16. If the dogs parentage is true, their pedigrees are fairly impressive- I was thinking that 900$ was a good price- I was thinking they were going to do the 2500 to 3000$ deal!

17. Regardless of the claim of genetic testing, I think someboby jumped the fence....
I posted the link on a mushing site that I frequent - there are some crack genetics people on there, I'll see what they think.

18. Mals have a pretty bad reputation in mushing circles for being "alligators", which are dogs that will snap at another team when passing or being passed. Unfortunately, I've encountered this behavior a couple of times in races, (as well as very well behaved Mals). I think that the problem arises when they are not properly conditioned and trained to accept the human/musher as the Alpha dog- not a breed for the timid. Some of my guys have up to half Mal and a couple have tried to be alligators, but they were trained early on that this was not acceptable behavior.
