  1. One of my Yorkies peed when we came home, when company came over and talked to her. It was so upsetting. I talked to my vet about it and he said it was called Involuntary Urination. He said to follow these steps and it worked. 1. When you first walk in the door, don't look at them, don't talk to them. Ignore them for a little bit and let them get settled down some. Then take them outside and give them attention. 2. Tell guests to do the same. We did this for a few weeks and it solved the problem. We have not had to worry about it for years.
  2. I have a carpet licker, in fact she licks her pillow, the sofa, just about anything she lays on. It kind of seems like a pacifier for her. She licks awhile and then settles down and goes to sleep. Just one of her quirks. Grass eating is fairly normal. My vet says they like the taste of grass sometimes.
  3. Some dogs just do it. As disgusting as it is it is perfectly natural. My vet suggested adding a small sprinkle of Adolf's Instant Meat Tenderizer to their food to stop it. It has the same ingredient in it that the stuff you purchase from a vet or pet store has. Just use it sparingly, it is really salty. It takes about 3 days before you start seeing results.
  4. That is so sad. It used to be that vets were in the vet business because they loved and cared about dogs but so often any more they play by different rules. I have been so fortunate that my vet takes my phone calls, emergency visits and loves my dogs. Tell your friend how sorry we are she has suffered this loss. Give her a big hug and let her cry. Sometimes we need to cry.
  5. Dogs can get a cough and flu like symptoms and it isn't Kennel Cough. I never use the vaccination for Kennel Cough. I did it a few times years ago and it always gave my dogs a cough. Never had any problem after I stopped getting them vaccinated.
  6. Prices vary and can be very expensive. I suggest getting more than one opinion. Some vets are very quick to do surgery on this and from what I have seen from people I know who have done it that it doesn't always fix the problem. So get several opinions, do some research and try to find a vet that is very experienced with this problem with a good track record. Maybe get some references...
  7. Several years ago we had a problem with our well and all of our dogs got sick. Albon and everything else the vet tried didn't help but he finally sent off samples and they said that an antiobiotic called SMZ was the only thing that would kill this particular strain. Ask your vet about trying SMZ. It has a lot longer name but I don't know what it is. SMZ should help your vet figure out what the medicine is. If not send me a message and I'll give you the vet's name for your vet to talk to.
  8. My mother's Yorkie started doing this and the vet put her on some medicine that helped. I don't know what it was but your vet should know.
  9. Kansas has very strict breeder licensing requirements. If you have more than 2 litters a year you have to have a license. They require on site vet inspections and they come for surprise inspections 2 times a year.
  10. Yes my dogs react to sounds on tv too. Sometimes it's funny and we egg it on but sometimes it really makes it hard to hear what is going on and we have to press pause.
  11. One of my five Yorkies has growled a couple of times when we sit down on the sofa and move her to make room. If she is really comfy she doesn't like to give up her spot.
  12. I hear so often of people who have had bad experiences with breeders. It upsets me so much. It's not just the upset the people have with a puppy that is not as it was advertised it is that they give good breeders a bad name. The first red flag for you about buying a puppy from this breeder is that they told you they were selling a pup at 5 weeks of age. I don't know of any reputable breeders that sell pups at 5 weeks.
