1. Okay, I just got off the phone with my vet. I feel a ton better....the thing that had me concerned was the temp dropping and still no labor. I am breeding on a very small scale and only have 2 breeding females. I don't think I will do the temp chart anymore. Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it. I was near panic mode. My vet and I have a great relationship but he recently relocated to Hilton Head. I haven't decided which local vet I will be using as of yet, but I am lucky to have the cell number of my vet that moved. He was good enough to call me back, regardless of the distance. Thanks again....expecting pups soon.
2. She has not started digging yet. She has however, been hiding in dark places to sleep. The only thing I've done different with this pregnancy is upgraded her food. I was feeding her Nutro when she was pregnant before. After a ton of research, I've switched all of our dogs to Innova, and she is currently eating Innova puppy.
3. When I got her, she had already had her first litter. This will be her 2nd with me. She had pups in May of 04. Now she is pregnant. A heat cycle was skipped between breedings.
4. Hi...My female ShihTzu is pregnant. She was due on the 24th. Today is the 28th and still no pups. Her temp dropped to 98.4 2 days ago, but she has not progressed beyond that. She seems fine, great appetite. She has milk and I can feel the pups moving around. Normal discharge, nothing abnormal except for the delayed delivery. I have called my vet and am currently waiting on him to get back to me....please, I have not experienced this before. I am trying not to panic and I keep reminding myself that her due date was calculated from the first day of breeding, but it was not the ONLY day she was bred. She bred every other day over the next 10 days or so. I guess what as me puzzled is her drop in temperature a few days ago...has anyone else experienced this? She is 4 years old and this will be her 3rd whelp. No past complications. Beautiful, healthy pups each time. Thanks in advance...
5. Hi guys.....First little guy was born at 7:15 last night. She had two more after that and we were all through by 9:45. 3 boys. She was really big, I was expecting more. Although I'm actually relieved it's a small litter since it's her first one. She's doing good though. I've got some pics, just unsure how to send them? Thanks, Angie
6. Hi everyone....Brooke, my Shih Tzu is in labor. She wasn't due until Sunday, but I had a feeling it would be today. I've checking her temp twice a day for a few days now and she's ready. I heard her digging in the middle of the night last night so I got up and sat with her for a while. This morning, the panting started and she's been panting all day. Wouldn't even look at her breakfast. I'm ready.....think I'm going to take her temp again. I haven't taken it since 9 this mornning. http://home.comcast.net/~kelleys_shihtzu/
7. Hi...I've been feeding my Shih tzu's the Nutro Natural Choice, Rice and Lamb. No problems. I recently purchased another puppy and that Breeder was feeding Bil Jac. She had wonderful things to say about the product and I had them send me samples for my other dogs. They love it. I am wondering which is truely the better dog food? Currently, I have to add a small amount of canned to get them to eat the Nutro, and they were all over the Bil Jac. I want to switch, but only if it's better for them. Please, let me know what you think. Thanks!
8. Hi....I had a problem with my Shih Tzu face staining really bad. After a lot of research on the topic, I discovered that staining can be caused by the mineral content in your tap water. I trained my dogs to drink from water bottles which keeps them from putting their face in a bowl. They stay dry and clean now. It has helped tremendously. I considered switching to bottle water instead of tap, but that route is too costly for me having 7 dogs. So, I use tap water and they drink it from a hanging water bottle. I can already see that the new growth on their faces is staying white.
9. Hey guys....have any of you had any personal experiences with Wisteria and your dogs? Do any of you have it growing near or around any of your animals? My research tells me it is poisonous, but I know several people who have it growing in abundance near their kennels and have had zero problems. Anyone have a clue??? Thanks
10. Hi SizzleDog....Thanks for the info! I had no idea. I have been patting myself on the back for giving what I though was a high quality food! Geez. Inova huh? I don't remember ever seeing that anywhere. Do the pet Superstores carry it? Is it something I would have to order online? Yes, that's Amy you see. Thanks! Trust me, I have been tempted to cut their hair. I have 3 of them. Lots of work. They all have the long coats. I just can't bring myself to have them cut. My husband thinks I'm crazy, but they are just so pretty and I think when they are cut, it takes a lot from their appearance. Took Amy to the vet. Perfect health it seems. He told me to go ahead and give her the straight canned food if she likes it better. I guess canned food is better than I originally believed. I hated giving it, even just as a mixer. He seems to think she is getting everything she needs and he also told me that her nutritional needs won't really change until AFTER whelping, while she is nursing. That suprised me. Oh well. Ya live, Ya learn.
11. Hi everyone...I am having trouble with my 2 yr old shih tzu, Amy. She is turning her nose up at her food which is Nutro Natural Choice Lamb & Rice Puppy Dry. Puppy food because she is most likey pregnant. I recently started mixing a small amount of canned to her dry to encourage her, didn't help much. Any suggestions on things I might add to her food to make her want it?? Fruit? Veg? Cottage Cheese?? Thanks in advance
