Website dedicated to Pet Safety

As Printed in the Wichita Eagle, Wichita KS, on 11 June 00.

Wichitan's Web site dedicated to safety of dogs I am the owner of a new Web site in Wichita called www.dogrunner.net. My Web site is dedicated to the safety of dogs and their best friends. I market safety-related items such as reflective dog collars and leashes, military-style dog tags (won't rust, snap or fade), pet life preservers, pet safety medical kits, pet emergency first aid books and other safety products.

The inspiration for my product line came from my CEO, Brandy, whose complete story can be found on the Web site. Brandy was a rescued dog whom I have been very protective of since she entered my life. It was out of my love and desire to protect her that generated the idea of starting my business.

Brandy and I run every morning about three miles. One morning while Brandy, our other dog, Spike, and I were running in our neighborhood, a car came barreling down the street and almost hit Brandy. Because she is a black Labrador retriever, she can be very hard to spot in the low light of the early morning. So the next day I decided she needed protection from the dark, and I went looking for reflective apparel for her. I looked all over town but couldn't find what I was looking for. Then one day while searching on the Internet I came across a wholesaler who sold reflective collars and leashes. That was January of this year, and the rest is history in the making. I built the Web site and it continues to grow and expand daily.

The best thing about my business is that I feel very satisfied in what I do, satisfied in knowing that what I sell could help save a dog's life.
